Joni is a breath of fresh air.
Chris...if that is what fresh air resembles, I'd rather hold my breath. Unfortunately, true musical diversity and talent is a lost art and Joni 'I hate everything' Mitchell is an example of the degrading skills we are talking about. Although she is very talented when it comes to playing instruments, my 8th grade daughter has proven to me to be more skillful in song writing.
Jonis unrelenting bashing of the Catholic Church grows tiresome; her bandwagon mentality shows her for what she is:flavor-of-the-week independent. Hopefully next time, Joni grows a thought out of her own mind. cya joni, wouldnt want to be ya
What does that mean??? I must not be hip or with it Joni sorry.
And the Catholic Church's prisons would be . . . where?
Did she have any advice for 'That Great and Peaceful Religion' of Islam?
And memo to Chris: Did you see Joni's picture? There ain't NOTHING fresh there! Sorry!
Pffftt. Joni Mitchell is not Catholic. From her own mouth, 'My father was Lutheran, and my mother was a Presbyterian. So they went to the United church, which was for mixed Christian marriages. I broke with the Church at age 7...'
How can someone who has never been a member of the Catholic Church slam it? She has no idea, beyond the skewed portrayals put out by Hollywood.
There are over 1 billion Catholics in the world, many of whom devote their whole lives trying to alleviate the suffering and injustice in this world, sometimes dying in the process. No, they are not famous or worldly, most haven't read Camus, most live in sparse conditions, most will die in obscurity, but to those whose lives they have touched, they represent a God who loves, who gives beyond self and selfishness. Ms. Mitchell, whose whole life has been about self-service and blame would do well to study the average Catholic in this world.
And don't tell me I have no idea what it must have been like for poor Ms. Mitchell, pregnant and separated from her then boyfriend. I have been there, a college student pregnant at 18. I did not give up my child. I did what was best for both myself and my child, now 20, and have never looked back. The father of Ms. Mitchell's daughter went back to Toronto to discuss marriage, but she had already placed her child and married another.
And, in answer to your inevitable question, I am a thirty-nine year-old, college-educated, female, Roman Catholic convert. I have experienced both sides of Christianity (from Pentacostal Holiness to Anglicanism to the Roman Catholic Church), and have never once seen what Ms. Mitchell proclaims espoused within the Roman Catholic Church.
When was the last time Ms. Mitchell set foot inside any Church? From her own mouth she left Christianity at the age of 7. That leaves 56 years without observation or study. Yet, she's a visionary? Again, pfffft.
And you may quote me on that!
Great post, Leigh!
Anyway, Mitchell's brain size problem is further evidenced by her slam on those poor bloke drivers who have the nerve pass her -- a superstar! -- on the right. I guess it never occurs to her that it is universal courtesy in the USA to reserve the left lane to passers. She's an idiot.
Wow! If those who criticise the catholic church get such a venomous response in the USA, its no wonder those paedophile priests got away with it for so long!
(And by the way, in response to those who point out that Ms. Mitchell left the church at age 7,those who are critical of religion are often far more knowledgeable about religion than those who are part of it - just ask your fellow church goers who Joan of Arc was - I had to laugh!)
Huh, Martin, you mean St. Joan of Arc? Whatever....
In any case, ignorant bigotry deserves ridicule and often begets it. Just works that way, bud.
